Bridgeport is a locality rich with generations of story. People who once lived in the area but moved away are returning, and the money they are bringing back is changing Bridgeport. Originally established as a residential neighborhood on the Near Southwest Side, Bridgeport is an older, family-oriented spot with historic roots and a number of historic churches. Bridgeport took its name because a local bridge was too low for the ships of the day. These ships were forced to unload at a port just before the bridge. Before it moved farther south, this was the location of Chicago’s Chinatown.

Recent revitalization has infused the neighborhood with hopes of a new well-planned area that is close to downtown. The area has many restaurants and bars. U.S. Cellular Field and the White Sox baseball games are the main draw to the region. Traffic here is light on the days when There are no games.
