More hassles at Midway Airport, Chicago, IL

June 22nd, 2006 by Administrator

For the jet setting and economy traveler alike, this winter may prove rough at Midway Airport. Personally, I used to travel all the time, but in recent years have been somewhat more…grounded. I remember back when Midway really was as small as it’s runways are exposing it to be. But, after the complete renovation of the airport, the travel traffic at Midway has skyrocketed – now it seems there will be more hassles at Midway Airport.

I have never been the biggest fan of Midway Airport – it has always seemed overly crowded and often poorly organized. But, I think in all honesty, it is some strange mutation of the North-side/South-side feud. I just like O’Hare better.

But, even I have to admit, that it is awfully convenient and even necessary in a city like Chicago to have more than one airport. So, when I see that Midway’s functionality and growth may be stunted by more hassles at Midway Airport, I worry for those who do use Midway as their primary airport of choice.

New regulations for landing procedures have been imposed by federal government. I’m all for safety – the safety of passengers and the safety of Chicagoans around Midway – and that’s obviously what all of these regulations are addressing. My only concern is that it seems they are imposing regulations without providing any options or answers.

This being the case, it appears that Midway may practically shut down as soon as Jack Frost begins his wintry tenure in our city. Between the construction of the ramp on 90-94 from 55 and these new delays, I hope that more hassles at Midway Airport don’t come along, because over enough time, it could very well cause the airport to entirely fold.
